OK, I consider myself a rather intelligent person. Why, then, is it that I cannot resist some reality programs?
I was a sad victim of the Bachelor/Bachelorette series when it first started. It seemed like a wonderful party game to shamelessly mock those searching for their 15 minutes of fame. Hell - I thought it might even be fun to apply. Yes - APPLY! Egads! Thank god that went nowhere because:
-I could care less about fame
-I look horrible in a bikini
-I would likely bitch slap most of the other dumbasses on the show
-None of the men has really been that appealing
Now the show doesn't even appeal to my wickedness. It's just horrible.
So, the Apprentice. Fun for the first season. Some interesting situations. I could do without Donald, but then where would we be? Second season - where are you finding these people? They have educations? It makes me ashamed to have one (well, for a brief moment). This season. I really like the recaps on MSNBC because they are a hoot.
American Idol - good lord, I have much better ways to spend my Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday nights - or however many prime time spots it dares to take up. Who can make that kind of commitment?
I never did enjoy Survivor, nor did I give Amazing Race a shot. Probably best.
So that leaves me with America's Next Top Model (ANTM for those who need a life like me). What fun - taking girls with already low self-esteems and stepping on all over them some more! I cannot think of a better way to spend a Wednesday night!
Some of my favorite lines and situations (and my friends concur) have come from this show:
-Bitch got beer in my weave - Come on now, how many times have your friends said this on one of your many Friday night benders?
-Ladies, before you apply, watch the show. Every season the models get naked, go somewhere elevated, and pose with creepy crawlies. If you cannot handle this, stay in your trailer park and shut the hell up.
-There is always a mother who misses the hell out of her child. Lest you think me horribly callous, I completely understand and respect that the mothers usually are doing this to provide a better life for their children (presumably where they live there is no hope of an education, hard work, and gumption, but I digress). Shut up about it. I get that you love your child. Enough.
-A good stylist and makeup and hair people can make you beautiful. For those who think this is a shallow foray into dangerous territory, I offer this. Some have said that they think this may be dangerous for younger women who think they have to strive to be skinny and beautiful. I say, instead, that it just goes to show what makeup can do for you. Some of these women are ugly - UGLY. When they have someone professional do their makeup and hair and then airbrush their photos, they look like models. Hell, offer me the same luxury and I can look like a damn model. So there is hope. Invest in some makeup and away you are!
For those of you who are interested in improving your complexions or general well-being, may I suggest a fantastic line of all natural/organic products? Wild Mountain Organics (I think the purpose of my blog will be to get WMO in all postings as much a possible.) - the link is to the right. The replenishing face cream and skin repair cream are amazing facial moisturizers! The facial polish is a gentle, nourishing cleanser that will make you feel awesome!
Before you start to criticize me for falling into the "reality show trap", let me state that I am well aware that "reality shows" are hardly realistic. The producers deliberately select people like this so I will rant like this. I am fine with it. In fact, I relish it! At least for the time being.
Perhaps next month I will discuss something important and worthwhile like Terri Shiavo or Bush and Iraq. Until then, I prefer to ignore reality with a healthy dose of reality tv!
Ignorance is Bliss today and I will Enjoy!
